Inspections And Permits

Through the issuance of permits and the requirements of public inspection, a community can assure itself of proper plumbing code enforcement. The permit allows the plumbing inspector to protect the consumer by assuring plumbing installations are done properly. The inspection of such plumbing work ensures that the installation is being completed in accordance with code provisions.

Large municipalities and those with significant amounts of construction generally employ full-time plumbing inspectors. Other municipalities use part-time inspectors or hire inspection services to protect their residents. Some counties also employ plumbing inspectors. The Illinois Department of Public Health has several plumbing inspectors with wider jurisdictional authority.

Illinois law requires that plumbing inspectors must be licensed plumbers. These individuals are also subject to continuing education requirements.
